Other Achievements

  • Kepler was known as the founder of optics 

    • discovered the lenses for nearsightedness and farsightedness

  • Appointed as “imperial mathematician” of the Holy Roman Empire, the highest math honor

  • Has a planetary mission and NASA spacecraft named after his astronomical work

  • Has a Mountain Range in New Zealand named after him, because of its great view of the night sky

  • Received a letter from Galileo thanking him for the faith he had in him

Extra Facts

  •  Contracted smallpox as a child causing him to lose partial vision

  • Had 10 children from his two marriages, many of which died young

  • His mother and grandmother were put on trial for charges of witchcraft

  • Although, Kepler was a very intelligent man, he was said to be a very poor teacher
